Mayabunder, Jan. 19: In a swift and positive response to concerns raised over the shortage of medical facilities at Dr. R.P. District Hospital, Mayabunder, the North and Middle Andaman Administration has taken prompt action by deputing an ambulance to the hospital, strengthening emergency healthcare services in North and Middle Andaman.
This development comes a day after reports highlighted the acute shortage of doctors and the absence of an ambulance at the district hospital, which had raised serious concerns among the public. Following the issue being brought to the notice of the authorities, an ambulance has been immediately sent to Dr. R.P. District Hospital, ensuring critical support for emergency referrals and patient transportation.
Former Pramukh of Mayabunder, Mr. Abdul Siddique, has expressed gratitude to Mr. Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Dr. Sidda Raju, Director of Health Services, and Dr. Ganesh Samaddar, Nodal Officer, Directorate of Health Services, for their timely intervention and swift decision-making. He stated that the prompt deployment of the ambulance reflects the administration’s sensitivity towards public health concerns and the welfare of the people of Mayabunder.
The hospital had been functioning under severe strain, with only two GDMOs and one Paediatrician managing OPD, inpatient care, and emergency services, while the sole ambulance had earlier left for Sri Vijaya Puram with a patient, leaving the hospital without any emergency transport.
The immediate availability of the ambulance is expected to significantly improve emergency response and patient care. Residents have welcomed the administration’s prompt action and expressed hope that further steps will be taken to address the shortage of doctors and healthcare staff at the district hospital on a priority basis.
