Mayabunder, Dec. 12: In a major development in FIR No. 34/2023 dated July 3, 2023, registered at Police Station Mayabunder, Shri. Subhajit Basu, Hon’ble Special Judge under the POCSO Act, North & Middle Andaman District, Mayabunder has convicted an accused, Ravi Bawa, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 235(2) of CrPC read with relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
The case was investigated by Inspector Grace Field, Investigating Officer (IO), under the supervision of SHO P.K. Abdul Arif, who ensured timely completion of the investigation and submission of the chargesheet.
According to the judgment pronounced on 11.12.2025, the court ordered that the convict shall undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of ₹60,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional term of six months’ simple imprisonment.
The court further directed that the fine amount, if realized, be handed over to the mother of the survivor (VG) for the rehabilitation of the victim under Section 357 CrPC.
The order also records that the period of imprisonment already undergone during the trial shall be set off.
The judgment notes that, as per the spirit of Section 357A CrPC and the Victim Compensation Scheme, the court is of the view that the victim’s family should receive due compensation for rehabilitation, subject to provisions of law.
