
Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 12: The District Industries Centre, Department of Industries, A & N Administration, Port Blair organized a series of Awareness cum Motivational Programme on Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and other Govt. Sponsored schemes of the department at various pockets of Nancowry Group of Islands to disseminate information to the aspiring entrepreneurs about the PMEGP Schemes apart from other incentive oriented various Schemes of the departments. The programmes were organized in association with Tribal Councils, Banks, and line departments at MRN Village-Katchal, Japan Tikery-Katchal, Tapong Village-Nancowry, Chota Inaka-Kamorta and Pilpillow Village-Kamorta.
The aspiring unemployed individuals of concerned areas participated enthusiastically a total of around 150 youths attended the programmes. They were motivated in setting up self-employment ventures under Manufacturing, Service and Business sector by availing the opportunity under PMEGP Scheme. The program also had interactive session for responding to the queries raised by the participants on the operating modalities, training, subsidy and timelines for obtaining benefit under the scheme. All the queries about the scheme were resolved on spot.
Total, 09 (nine) youths expressed their willingness to avail the self-employment opportunity under PMEGP Scheme; the interested youths were provided guidance on online filing documentation procedures required under the scheme. The identified youth were mainly interested in projects such as General Stores, Trading, Handicraft & Carpentry units, Salons and Four-wheeler Passenger Vehicle.
Besides promoting new entrepreneurs, an assessment was also made on the recovery and performance of the scheme in Nancowry Group of Islands for timely repayment of loans and settlement of subsidy under the scheme.
