
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 28: With the continuous efforts of Andaman Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh (ANRKM) and Mr. Vishal Jolly, today the delegation of ANRKM along with the representative of ALHW Karmachari Sangh met the Union Minister of Port, Shipping and Waterways Mr. Sarbanand Sonowal to present the matter of absorption of contractual manpower continuously engaged by ALHW for more than 15 to 20 years. Mr. S. Biju Pillai, General Secretary, ANRKM informed about the provisions under CLRA1970 and submitted the subsequent judgements of Hon’ble Supreme Court, wherein directions were given to absorb the manpower in the establishment as the work is continuous and perennial in nature.
The Minister gave a patient hearing and enquired about the works and status of the workmen who were engaged by the outsourcing contractor which was presented before the Minister in detail and requested the Minister to constitute a Committee to study the ground reality of the Outsourced employees of ALHW.
Finally, it was agreed to constitute a committee to assess the current status of workmen, their nature of work, and study the provisions of CLRA, 1970 in the light of Supreme Court judgements for absorption. The delegation was led by Mr. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, President ANRKM along with Mr. S. Biju Pillai, General Secretary, Mr. P. Jagdish, President and Mr. Arogya Das, Secretary ALHW Karmachari Sangh.
