Diglipur, Nov 25: The Gram Panchayat Nabagram, Diglipur, has prepared a comprehensive list of urgently required road and culvert development works across several wards, highlighting the worsening condition of village roads and drainage systems. The Panchayat has stressed the immediate need for metalling, black-topping, and construction of culverts at multiple vulnerable points where public inconvenience has been steadily rising.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Nabagram Ms. Pratima Roy said villagers have been enduring severe hardships, particularly during the monsoon, due to broken kacha roads, waterlogging, overflowing drains and frequent seasonal flooding. She noted that access to several remote habitations has become increasingly difficult, affecting schoolchildren, workers, senior citizens, and even emergency services.
The Pradhan added that she has been consistently demanding these improvements for a long time, as these interior roads serve as essential lifelines for daily movement. She pointed out that inadequate drainage and the lack of proper culverts, especially near the houses of Haridas Paul, Milan Roy and other localities, continue to obstruct water flow, creating health hazards and transportation issues. “These are basic necessities the public has been asking for repeatedly. The situation worsens every monsoon,” she said.
Although these works fall under the jurisdiction of APWD, Zilla Parishad and Samiti, progress has remained stagnant. The Pradhan informed that a formal communication regarding these concerns was earlier submitted to the Member of Parliament and the issues have been repeatedly raised in public meetings and administrative forums.
The Gram Panchayat has appealed for these long-pending works to be taken up on priority to ensure safe, reliable and accessible road connectivity for the people of Nabagram.
