Port Blair, Jan 02: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is all set to host UT’s lone Carnival, Island Tourism Festival (ITF) 2012 from 5th to 15th January 2012.
Lt. Governor of A & N Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh will be inaugurating the festival at 1800 hrs on 5th January 2012.
“This year the added feature of ITF will be that, coinciding with the Island Tourism Festival, a five day CARNIC fest from 7th to 11th January 2012 is also being organised, which will also be inaugurated by the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands,” Mr. Satish Mathur, the Secretary of Andaman’s Information Publicity and Tourism Department told reporters today.
Addressing a press conference at Port Blair today Mr. Mathur said that Island Tourism Festival is also being taken to all the three Districts.
During ITF, Cultural programmes have been arranged in Diglipur, Long Island in North and Middle Andaman, Neil Island, Havelock Island, Wandoor, Wimberleygunj, Bathubasti in South Andaman, Amphitheatre at Anarkali Basti and Netaji Stadium in Port Blair Municipal Area and Car Nicobar in Nicobar District.
“Another feature of this year’s Island Tourism Festival is the participation of mainland state tourism corporations. States like Madhyapradesh, Goa, Delhi, Karnataka and Meghalaya are participating with their tourism products,” the secretary added.
Mr. Mathur added that like every year, the ITF Exhibition will have stalls with exhibits of different departments in the Administration. There are 25 numbers of stalls in Government category and 53 numbers of stalls of private category mainly to sell general merchandise and 12 numbers of food stalls.
“A special event ‘Euphoria’ Rock Band, a nationally reputed band of Dr. Palash Sen is performing at Netaji Stadium on 12 January 2012 and entry to this show will be tree for all Islanders,” Mathur said.
As per information there would be daily cultural programme at different venues presented by artists of Zonal Cultural Centre during Island Tourism Festival.
Artists from Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odhisha, West Bengal will perform. Apart from this Song and Drama Division of Kolkata are also sending their artists.
