
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 06: An awareness programme on “Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse” under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare at Sri Vijaya Puram. The session was led by the Project Assistant (NAPDDR) and attended by students of B.Sc. First Year (Geography) from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM). The resource persons for the session were, Medical Officer (IRCA), Psychologist-cum-Counselor (NTCP), Directorate of Health & Services, Senior Officials from Police Department Anti-Narcotics CID.
During the programme, they sensitized the students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and urged them to adopt a healthy, responsible, and drug-free lifestyle. To encourage student participation, a QR code for the e-pledge under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was displayed, enabling students to take the pledge digitally and join the nationwide movement against substance abuse. In addition, awareness pamphlets were distributed among the students to spread the anti-drug message within the campus.
The speakers emphasized that students are the torchbearers of the nation’s future and highlighted the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle for personal growth and national progress. They also appealed to students to become peer ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan by spreading awareness among their friends and communities. The event concluded with an interactive discussion and a collective pledge by all participants to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and contribute towards building a drug-free Andaman & Nicobar Islands and a drug-free India.
