
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 04: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with Andaman College (ANCOL), observed World Sight Day on 3rd November 2025 at the college premises. The programme was organized by the Vocational Department, CRC, A&N Islands, with the objective of sensitizing students on how to “Love Your Eyes,” understand the impact of excessive screen time on vision, and emphasize the importance of pedestrian safety and respect for the rights of persons with visual disabilities.
The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal, ANCOL, who greeted the resource persons from CRC, A&N Islands, the faculty members of Psychology, Dept. of Psychology, and the participating students.
Dr. Prabhu, Special Educator (Orientation & Mobility), CRC, delivered an informative presentation on White Cane Safety Awareness, focusing on mobility, independence, and safety measures for persons with visual impairments. Mr. G. Ashok, Vocational Instructor, CRC, presented on “Eye–Tech Balance: Healthy Vision in the High-Tech Digital Era,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining eye health in the modern digital lifestyle.
During the session, Mr. K. Venket Ramana, Assistant (Consultant), CRC, elaborated on the various activities and rehabilitation services offered by CRC, A&N Islands, highlighting the Centre’s continuous efforts towards empowerment and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) across the Islands.
A total of 68 students from Andaman College actively participated in the awareness programme, engaging with the resource persons and gaining valuable insights into eye health, visual safety, and inclusive practices.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion, reinforcing the commitment of both CRC, A&N Islands, and ANCOL to promote awareness, accessibility, and inclusion for persons with visual disabilities.
