Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 02: On behalf of the farmers and livestock owners of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, State President, Hindu Rashtra Shakti, has written to the Lt. Governor, Chief Secretary, and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), A & N Islands, urging immediate steps to strengthen animal healthcare support systems across the islands.
In his letter addressed to the Lt Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sri Vijayapuram, the Chief Secretary, Secretariat, A & N Administration, Sri Vijayapuram and the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, A & N Islands, Sri Vijayapuram, Mr. Lall highlighted the growing need for an organized and accessible animal healthcare system in the islands. He emphasized that farmers and cattle owners often face great difficulty in obtaining timely medical help for their animals during accidents, illness, or emergencies—particularly in rural and remote areas where veterinary facilities are limited.
He has requested the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to introduce Animal Ambulances in every Tehsil to ensure rapid veterinary response and safe transportation of injured or sick animals. Referring to the successful implementation of the toll-free number 1962 in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Gujarat as an Animal Ambulance Helpline, Mr. Lall pointed out that the initiative has been highly effective in safeguarding animal health and promoting compassion toward all living beings.
Considering the geographical spread of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the dependence of rural communities on livestock for livelihood, Mr. Lall urged the Administration to procure Animal Ambulances in all Tehsils and activate the 1962 toll-free number as an Animal Emergency Helpline.
He further stated that this initiative would not only enhance animal welfare but also strengthen the support system for island farmers and livestock keepers. He expressed confidence that the Administration will give this request due consideration and take suitable action in the larger public interest.
