
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 26: The Department of AH&VS conducted a poultry distribution program recently at the Veterinary Dispensary, Shaheed Dweep. A total of 1,204 poultry birds were distributed to 41 beneficiaries, comprising 600 Vanraja chicks, 100 Nicobari chicks, 288 ducklings, 134 quails, 78 guinea fowl, and 4 turkeys. The initiative aimed to enhance livestock farming, promote nutritional security, and create income opportunities for local farmers.
The distribution focused on providing diverse poultry breeds to support sustainable farming practices in Shaheed Dweep. Vanraja and Nicobari chicks are well-suited for local conditions, while ducklings, quails, guinea fowl, and turkeys offer varied opportunities for income generation and dietary diversification. Beneficiaries received the birds to strengthen their livelihoods through poultry rearing, contributing to the local economy. The active participation of 41 beneficiaries underscores their dedication to adopting poultry farming as a viable source of income and nutrition, a press release from AH&VS Department said.
