Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 24: Residents of Brookshabad area in Ward No. 22 are facing severe hardships due to the deteriorated condition of local roads, allegedly caused by continuous movement of heavy quarry trucks. Highlighting the issue, Mr. Rajesh Ram, Junior Vice-Chairperson of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council and Councillor of Ward No. 22, has submitted a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District, urging immediate intervention.
In his letter, Mr. Rajesh Ram stated that the village road has been completely damaged by heavy vehicles transporting quarry materials, leading to immense inconvenience for school children, college students, office-goers, and the general public. He noted that thick layers of mud and soil have accumulated on the road, making it difficult for people to commute safely.
Recently a protest was organised by some villagers or Ward No. 22 in this regading. Addressing media Mr. Rajesh Ram said that the situation is particularly distressing for school-going children who are forced to walk with shoes in hand and wear them only upon reaching school, due to the poor road condition. This, he emphasized, not only causes inconvenience but also affects their dignity and confidence. College students and office staff too are reportedly reaching their destinations with soiled clothes and shoes due to the muddy roads.
Mr. Rajesh Ram further pointed out that the continuous movement of heavy quarry trucks has resulted in severe damage to the road infrastructure, hampering daily life in the area. He requested the district administration to take prompt measures to regulate quarry truck movement and implement dust control and soil management measures.
Appealing for swift administrative action, the Councillor urged the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a surprise visit to assess the ground situation firsthand and ensure that the damaged roads are repaired and maintained properly to restore normalcy for the residents of Brookshabad.
