
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 15: Mr. Abdul Siddique, Ex-Pramukh, Mayabunder, met Cdr. Vijay Kumar, Director of Shipping, A&N Administration, at Sri Vijayapuram to discuss the difficulties faced by the residents of Mayabunder and Diglipur following the suspension and withdrawal of M.V. Nalanda and M.V. Sindhu ship services.
During the meeting, Mr. Siddique highlighted the hardships faced by the public due to the replacement of these ships with speed boats, which lack basic facilities and are not suitable for long-distance travel. The discussion centered on finding a sustainable and passenger-friendly solution to ensure reliable transportation between the islands.
Responding to the concerns, the Director of Shipping reportedly assured that the service of M.V. Kalighat will be continued for Mayabunder and Diglipur, providing immediate relief to the commuters. A communication further said that additionally, the Director reportedly informed that efforts are underway to introduce a weekly ship service equipped with cabin and bunk facilities, similar to those offered by the previous vessels.
Mr. Abdul Siddique expressed his gratitude to the Director of Shipping for his positive response and commitment, stating that the reintroduction of proper ship services will bring significant relief and convenience to the people of Mayabunder and Diglipur.
