
Sri Vijaypuram, October 09, 2025:The valedictory function of the jointly organized Hindi Fortnight by All India Radio and Doordarshan, Sri Vijaypuram, was held on October 6 in the conference hall of All India Radio. The event marked the successful conclusion of the fortnight-long celebration aimed at promoting the use of Hindi as the official language in daily and official communications.
The ceremony was graced by Shri C. Subba Rao, Deputy Director General and Cluster Head of All India Radio and Doordarshan, as the Chief Guest. Renowned historian and retired Assistant Director from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration Dr. Rashida Iqbal, and noted radio and theatre personality Mr. Sheikh Farooq Alam, were the Guests of Honour. The dignitaries were welcomed with bouquets and mementos.
During the function, certificates were distributed to the winners of various competitions held throughout the fortnight. The annual Hindi Fortnight, which begins every year on Hindi Diwas (September 14), continues for fifteen days to encourage the use and importance of Hindi in official work and everyday communication.
Earlier, Shri Deepak Chandra Tiwari, Assistant Director of All India Radio and Doordarshan, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the growing significance of Hindi in official and administrative functions. He encouraged everyone to not only use Hindi as an official language but also as a vibrant medium of personal and cultural expression.
The Guests of Honour, Dr. Rashida Iqbal and Mr. Sheikh Farooq Alam, delivered special lectures on the evolution and diversity of Hindi as spoken across the islands. The program also saw the presence of Smt. Meena Prakash, Programme Head, and several senior officers and staff members, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and pride.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Shri C. Subba Rao highlighted Hindi’s role as a symbol of national unity and underscored the importance of expanding its use in modern administrative systems. Towards the end of the program, employees who had shown outstanding performance during the fortnight were felicitated.
The event formed a part of the nationwide campaign to promote the Hindi language, with the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands — often referred to as “Mini India” — actively participating in this cultural initiative. The Sri Vijaypuram centre’s effort stood out as a commendable step toward keeping Hindi vibrant and relevant in contemporary times.
