Dasarathpur, 07 October: The Gram Panchayat (GP) Dasarathpur in Middle Andaman is intensifying its plea for a new agricultural tractor, citing severe hardships for local farmers due to a lack of proper farming equipment. Pradhan, GP Dasarathpur, Mrs. Rupa Rani Halder has formally appealed to the Department of Agriculture, underscoring the vital need for machinery to sustain the region’s farming economy.
The agricultural community of Dasarathpur, which is primarily engaged in cultivation, has been struggling for the last two years without a functional tractor. According to the Pradhan, the Panchayat’s existing tractor has completed 15 years of usage and is currently lying unserviceable, hindering timely and efficient agricultural activities.
The Gram Panchayat had formally written to the Secretary, Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration, on 09/09/2025. This letter formally requested the provision of a new tractor under the Department of Agriculture schemes.
The letter outlined the multiple uses for the essential machinery, including:
• Tillage and cultivation support for small and marginal farmers.
• Transportation of agricultural produce, seeds, and fertilizers.
• Assistance in crucial rural development and employment schemes like MGNREGA.
The Pradhan urged the Secretary for “kind approval for the allotment of a tractor to Gram Panchayat Dasarathpur at the earliest,” noting that the lack of an operational tractor for the past two years hampers not only productivity but also collaborative farming practices.
In a letter dated 21/01/2025, the Pradhan addressed the appeal to the Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Constituency, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray. The letter highlighted that the lack of proper machinery has “significantly hindered the agricultural productivity in our region.” It argued that a new tractor is not just a tool for tilling and plowing, but an essential asset for the overall agricultural output and the welfare of the local economy. The Pradhan humbly requested Mr. Ray to consider the appeal and take prompt action.
