Port Blair, Apr 24: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has requested the Lt Governor for immediate financial compensation to the victims of fire accident which occurred at midnight (11.30 PM) of 23rd April, 2013 at Wimberlygunj. Mr. Sharma stated that, as per reports, total four shops of poor tenants were totally gutted while the wooden house also got severely damaged which belonged to a poor resident of the area. All the four shops i.e. pan shop, vegetable shop, bakery and eatery shop belonged to lower income groups who with the petty earning from their shops were somehow maintaining their family.
Mr. Sharma also stated that the Administrator has always been kind to such victims and taken care to compensate their loss which they had to incur for no fault of theirs. Just last year the Administrator had compensated the fire victims of Haddo for whom the PCC Chief sent a letter of request.
Mr. Sharma also requested the Lt Governor to kindly consider sanctioning of immediate financial help as interim relief to the victims of Wimberlygunj mishap so that they can purchase things of urgent need and take care of their families.
Mr. Sharma also requested Lt. Governor to consider getting the assessment of the loss sustained by each of the victims through the officials of the Administration at an early date and to be kind enough to compensate the full loss so that the poor shop keepers and the house owner may lead normal life.
Mr. Sharma also requested for considering alternative shops for the victimized shop keepers where they can start their business.
