Port Blair, Apr 24: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has requested for providing some welfare measures for the Tribal of Harminder Bay.
In his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Mr.Sharma mentioned that during pre-tsunami there was a bridge for crossing the Light house Nallah at Harminder Bay, Little Andaman which was partially damaged during the tsunami but till date the bride has not been repaired.
The villagers at present are using a bridge which is also in dilapidated condition causing the villagers acute problems to reach towards their cultivation field and bring the produces for which they have to cross the bridge. Further to it, the tourists are also facing acute problems to reach the Light house which is also a tourist spot.
Further Mr. Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor to consider immediate repairing of the bridge. Further to it, Mr. Sharma has also requested for a Birth House, Death house and community hall at Harminder Bay to enable the tribal for getting delivery of new born babies, to perform last rituals of their deceased and near and dear ones and to arrange social get together, meetings and other functions respectively.
Mr. Sharma has also stated that Previously the street lights were provided by the Panchayat from Break water to Harminder Bay which was closed by them due to want of fund and due to non availability of street lights the residents of Harminder bay are facing acute problem during night hours. Mentioning that the Andaman and Nicobar Administration is always ready to solve the problems of the Tribal on priority basis, Mr. Sharma has earnestly requested the Administrator to kindly consider fulfilling of the above long pending demands of the peace loving residents of the Harminder bay so that they lead their normal lives without any problems.
