Sri Vijayapuram, Sept. 23: The Hindu Seva Sangh has requested the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to allow the newly constructed Chatham Slipway Jetty or Vehicle Ferries to be used for the upcoming Durga Puja idol immersion ceremonies.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Abhay Kumar, President of the Hindu Seva Sangh, highlighted the difficulties faced during the recent Ganesh Puja celebrations. Idols immersed at Marina Park and Junglighat jetties were seen resurfacing on the shore, causing inconvenience, hurting religious sentiments, and raising concerns over cleanliness at these public spots.
Mr. Abhay Kumar stated that the Chatham Slipway Jetty or Vehicle Ferries would be better suited for deeper immersion, preventing idols from floating back. “This arrangement will uphold religious sanctity and maintain public cleanliness,” he wrote.
The Sangh has urged the Administration to take a decision at the earliest so that Puja Committees within the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal area can plan accordingly.
