
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 21: The 5th Edition of the ‘Tour of Andaman’ (ToA), the Islands’ flagship Adventure and Eco-Tourism Cycling Event, was formally flagged off today morning from the National Memorial Cellular Jail, Sri Vijaya Puram. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS who was the chief guest of the event, flagged off the cycling event.
Smt. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Secretary (IP&T) and Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Director (IP&T) also graced the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary lauded the initiative and encouraged the participants to uphold the spirit of adventure while spreading the message of sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.
Over the years, the ‘Tour of Andaman’ has evolved into a prestigious calendar event, promoting eco-friendly adventure tourism and placing the Andaman & Nicobar Islands firmly on the national and international tourism map.
Spanning over 315 kilometres across seven days, the Tour will take cyclists through some of the most captivating and challenging routes of the Islands, including Chidiyatapu, Mount Manipur, Shoal Bay, Jirkatang, Baratang, Rangat, Mayabunder, Ross & Smith Islands, and Diglipur.
This edition features the participation of around 33 cyclists from across India, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa, along with local riders, who will test their endurance while experiencing the unspoiled beauty of the archipelago.
The event is organized by ‘Team Parikrama’ in association with the Hoteliers Association of A & N Islands, and supported by the Department of Tourism, A & N Administration, with the Transport Corporation of India (TCI) as Logistics Partner.
