
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 14:The District Legal Services Authority, A & N Islands held National Lok Adalat in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR Centre-“PRAYAS”, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder, Diglipur and also at Campbell Bay (through virtual mode) today.
A total of 1024 pre-litigation cases including 795 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases and 499 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat out of which 47 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and 08 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 47 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 1,97,03,643/- have been settled at Rs. 91,19,600/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs. 1,05,84,043/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 2,81,900/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 09 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 57,020/- was settled at Rs. 29,000/-. A sum of Rs. 14,000/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 339 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 4,92,300/- was realized as fine. Disposing of one case under Negotiable Instruments Act, the involved amount of Rs. 3,50,000/- was settled at Rs.1,67,000/-. Disposing of 12 cases under Motor Vehicle act through virtual mode pertaining to Campbell Bay, a fine amount of Rs. 30,450/- was realized.
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 127 pre-litigation cases including 100 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred out of which 13 pre-litigation bank cases and 05 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of. Disposing of 13 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 1,09,63,548/- have been settled at Rs. 12,02,500/- thus paving a benefit of Rs. 97,61,048/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 1,28,200/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 05 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 12,135.38/- was settled at Rs. 11,742.30/- which was realized on the spot. 112 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 69 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 1,23,400/- was realized. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 161 pre-litigation cases including 115 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred. Disposing of 5 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 9,61,597/- have been settled at Rs. 7,00,200/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs. 2,61,397/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 23,500/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 05 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 19,031/- was settled at Rs. 9,500/- which was realized on the spot. 39 cases pending in court were taken up out of which 28 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 1,02,150/- was realized.
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Mr. Diptendra Nath Mitra, Ld. Court, Port Blair and Mr. Anupam Sircar, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Additional Court, Port Blair sitting with Mr. Siddharth Singha, Advocate, Mohammed Shahrukh, Advocate, Ms. Anushka Singh, Advocate, Ms. Kushnaaz Bano, Advocate, Smti. Marya Sheela, PRAYAS JAC, Mr. K. Vijay Kumar, Social Entrepreneur, Mr. T. Abdul Sathar, Executive Member, Humane Touch and Mr. Ajit Thankachen, Social Activist. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Mr. Tarun Kumar Mondal, Chief Judicial Magistrate, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mr. Sudip Sutradhar, Advocate and Smti. Jyoti Kumari, Social Worker. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Mr. Somnath Das, Judicial Magistrate First Class, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mr. Barun Kumar Bepari, Advocate and Mr. Shyamal Bowmick, Social Worker/Pradhan.
