Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 02: To strengthen security at private ports, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has developed a new hybrid security model. Under this model, overall port security will remain with CISF, while certain functions will be handled by private security companies.
To enhance the capabilities of these private security personnel, CISF has launched a certification based security training program. The two-week “Port Facility Security Program” has been designed in consultation with the Directorate General of Shipping and other stakeholders.
The training will cover threat detection, emergency procedures, legal framework, use of technical security equipment, and compliance with ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code standards.
India has nearly 200 small and medium-sized ports, of which around 65–66 handle cargo operations. At present, CISF is responsible for the security of these ports.
