
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 09: In a concerted effort to safeguard the health and well-being of students, the District Administration, South Andaman, has intensified its enforcement drive against the illegal sale and possession of tobacco products in the vicinity of educational institutions. Exercising powers under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, a targeted inspection drive was conducted within the 100-meter “no tobacco” zone around schools and colleges.
On 9th July 2025, Revenue officials conducted a comprehensive inspection of commercial establishments and shops located within a 100-yard radius of GSSS Govind Nagar, Swaraj Dweep.
During the operation, six shops were found in possession of contraband tobacco products in violation of COTPA provisions. The illegal items were immediately confiscated, and proper seizure memos were issued on the spot, adhering to all legal protocols and procedures.
The District Administration remains committed to maintaining a tobacco-free environment around educational institutions and urge all vendors and stakeholders to comply with the law. Strict action will continue against violators to protect public health, especially that of young students.
All vendors are once again reminded to adhere strictly to the provisions of COTPA, 2003. Regular surprise inspections will be carried out, and any future violations will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
