Sri Vijaya Puram, June 25:In light of the ongoing distress faced by families of deceased government servants who died during the COVID-19 pandemic or due to fatal accidents, the Andaman & Nicobar Vidyut Shramik Sangh has appealed to the Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to expedite compassionate appointments to Group ‘C’ posts under the A&N Administration.
The appeal was made through a formal letter addressed to the Lt. Governor by Mr. N. Peddi Raju, State President of the union. The letter highlighted the pressing issue of job vacancies on compassionate grounds remaining unfilled for an extended period, thereby leaving families of the deceased government employees in severe financial hardship.
Mr. Raju wrote, “As a result, the eligible persons for compassionate appointment are not getting jobs and are facing untold miseries. Due to the demise of the earning member in their families, they are facing problems to run their family.” He further emphasized that many such posts are lying vacant within various departments of the A&N Administration, and urged that a 5% reservation on compassionate grounds be upheld in Group ‘C’ positions.
The letter also pointed out that numerous government employees succumbed to COVID-19 or died due to electrical, mechanical, and other service-related accidents. “Due to such sudden demise, families are left with no earning members, and they too need to be considered for compassionate appointments,” Mr. Raju stated.
He added that that the poor family members are facing very difficulties for day-to-day livelihood for not having any earning member of respective family. He concluded the letter by requesting that the vacant posts on compassionate grounds be filled up as early as possible to support the bereaved families, expressing hope and gratitude for the Administration’s support.
