
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jun 24: The upgraded Community Hall at Anna Nagar under Gram Panchayat Hope Town was inaugurated today by Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary (RD, PRIs & ULBs) and Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, A&N Administration in the presence of PRI members, officials from the Department of Panchayati Raj, local administration and members of the general public.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the Government’s continued commitment towards the development of rural infrastructure. He also urged the residents to adopt cleanliness as a way of life and play an active role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
As part of his visit, the Secretary (RD & PRIs)/Deputy Commissioner also inaugurated nine mobile food stalls operated by Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) at the North Bay tourist destination. This initiative is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing livelihood opportunities for SHG members especially women, through sustainable income-generating activities in high-footfall tourist locations.
Later, he undertook an inspection of the damaged Panighat Jetty at Hope Town accompanied by the Zilla Parishad Member and the Pradhan of Hope Town to assess the need for restoration and necessary repairs.
