Port Blair, Apr 08: In an unfortunate incident a 52 year old lady got serious injuries when she was trying to enter the DSS gate to get tickets for Vizag early this morning. The lady got her ankle fractured while she struggling to enter the DSS gate when the gate was opened by IRBn Jawans deputed at the gate.
According to the sources the lady, Mrs Akkama reached the DSS gate last night and waiting whole night to make sure that she reaches first to the ticket counter to obtain ship ticket for Vizag.
“I was almost first in the line but when the gate was opened the crowd behind me went mad and crushed me. I fell down on the ground and my ankle was trapped in the barricade. The barricade was dragged by crowd upto some distance, which left my ankle fractured,” said Akkama after coming out of operation theatre. Akkama had undergone a surgery on her ankle this afternoon and presently she is admitted in G B Pant Hospital.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Capt. Rajender Kumar, Director of Shipping Services, Andaman and Nicobar Islands he informed that the incident was very unfortunate and he will request the police to deploy more police personnel at the ticketing counter as managing crowd is the responsibility of Police Department.
He further informed that presently eleven police officials have been deployed to maintain law and order situation at ticketing counter, out of which two are from anti-corruption department.
“We are very sorry that such accident occurred,” Capt. Rajender Kumar said.
