Sri Vijaya Puram, May 13: The valedictory function of Five Days Hands-on training on Recent Trends in Collection, Preservation & Identification of Seaweeds for M. Sc. students of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology students was organized in Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre.
Mr. Ravi Horo, IFS, Addl. PCCF, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Sri Vijaya Puram, was the Chief Guest and Special Guests Padmashree Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, Ambassador, Swachh Bharat Mission, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Dr. G. Padmavathi, Head of the Department, Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology, Pondicherry University were present.
Mr. Horo encouraged the trainees to gain skill in the taxonomic aspects. He emphasised the need for such a training programme as of today.
Addl. Director & Regional Head, Dr. Lal Singh, welcomed the gathering, briefed about the training activities conducted and in his address he wished all the trainees a fruitful and enriching future ahead. Five days training programme was aimed to impart technical skills on sea weeds study, their collection, identification and conservation techniques. A series of specialised lectures and hands-on training through demonstration both in laboratories and field were conducted especially in the coastal area of Bernard and Botanical Garden of Botanical Survey of India. This Plant Taxonomy Programme was linked with conservation and focused on exploring different livelihood options.
Besides, 30 trainees, professors, scientists, researchers, Officers from various organisations and media persons from Doordarshan and Akashwani were present. Valedictory function was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mahadevakumar S., Scientist C of BSI.
