Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 15: Together with the rest of the nation, the Andaman & Nicobar Fire and Emergency Services are solemnly observing the Fire Service Day-2025 on 14th April, 2025, under the theme “Unite to Ignite, A Fire Safe India”. This year’s theme emphasizes the collective responsibility of fire services, industries, institutions, and the general public in fostering a culture of fire safety and building a resilient and secure India.
The observance of Fire Service Week commenced with a Commemoration Day Parade on 14th April, 2025, to honour and pay tribute to the brave fire service personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the year 2024. The ceremony was held at the Parade Ground of Fire and Emergency Services (Headquarters), where a solemn atmosphere prevailed in remembrance of the martyrs.
Mrs. Sindhu Pillai, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, she reflected on the historical significance of this day, commemorating the Bombay Dock Explosion of 14th April, 1944, in which numerous firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice while combating a devastating blaze triggered by an explosion. She emphasized that this annual observance is not only a moment of remembrance but also a nationwide call to action—urging every citizen to remain vigilant, responsible and prepared to prevent and respond to fire emergencies.
A two-minute silence was observed with deep reverence to honour the courage and sacrifice of the fire service personnel who lost their lives in 2024. As a mark of respect, the name of the fallen hero Sh. RaviKant Mandal of Bihar Fire Service was solemnly read out by the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest lauded the unwavering dedication of the Andaman & Nicobar Fire & Emergency Services and expressed heartfelt appreciation for their continued commitment to protecting life and property.
