Port Blair, April 11: The Joint Action Telugu Community (JATC) has submitted a formal request to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, urging for the provision of additional shipping schedules between Sri Vijaya Puram and Visakhapatnam during the upcoming summer vacation.
In the letter, JATC emphasized that during summer breaks, a large number of Telugu people residing in the Islands travel to their hometowns in Andhra Pradesh to participate in traditional village poojas and family events. Residents from neighboring states also use the same sea route to reach their native places. However, the community pointed out that no shipping schedule for this sector has been announced for the past two months, nor has any forthcoming schedule been advertised.
The letter further highlighted the financial challenges faced by labor-class passengers, noting that airfares from Sri Vijaya Puram to Visakhapatnam typically range between ₹10,000 and ₹12,000 during summer. Many people from economically weaker sections depend on ships for travel as they cannot afford air travel.
Given the circumstances, JATC has humbly requested that at least two ship services be scheduled each in the months of April, May, and June 2025, between Sri Vijaya Puram and Visakhapatnam, and vice versa. The organization concluded the appeal by seeking the Chief Secretary’s support and prompt action on this matter.
