Port Blair, Apr 1: The road running from Govt. Middle School, Dollygunj to ICMR via cattle pond is in real bad shape. The road is 99% damaged and the general commuters of the area face a lot of problems because of the said road. The road, which doesn’t have the top layer, is lying in the same state since past many years and it is also not repaired and re-constructed ever.
The general public of the area told Andaman Sheekha that the road is not repaired since long and it will only get repaired once the elections come nearby for attracting voters.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Mrs. Poornima Devi, Pradhan, Dollygunj Panchayat to know the reasons behind the bad condition of the road she informed that initially the road was constructed by the Zilla Parishad and because of its construction by the engineering division of Zilla Parishad the road cannot be repaired by the Panchayat now.
She further informed that they have several times approached the Zilla Partishad authorities personally and through the Zilla Parishad member of the area to get the road constructed and now an estimate is prepared which is amounting to Rs. 84 Lacks. “The construction of the road could not start because of the Zilla Partishad cannot spend an amount as huge as 84 Lacks Rs. for a single panchayat,” she said.
Mrs. Poornima added that they will request the authorities to transfer the road to APWD so that it can be reconstructed soon because panchayat and Zilla Parishad lack sufficient funds to construct the road.
Call it a technical or non-technical or Administrative problem but the issue is everyday people living in the area are experiencing huge inconvenience because of the bad road. The Monsoon will hit these Islands soon and one can imagine how difficult it will become to commute through the road, during monsoon.
