Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 23: A meeting of students of Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder was held at Mayabunder recently. The meeting discussed various issues of the students particularly the adverse impact on the student community in the islands after the disaffiliation of all the colleges from the Pondicherry Central University and affiliating with the newly established Deemed University. The meeting unanimously decided to form the MG Govt College Mayabunder Unit of Students Federation of India with two Conveners and 22 Unit Committee Members.
In a resolution adopted in the meeting, the SFI Unit has urged upon the Govt of India and A & N Administration to keep in abeyance the decision to affiliate the existing Colleges in the islands with the Deemed University. The meeting further decided to take up various other demands of the students of these islands.
Rahul Dev Mridha, Advocate of Mayabunder Court and a former student of MG Govt. College, Mayabunder spoke at the meeting and explained in brief various demands of the students and the agitations being conducted by the Students Federation of India (SFI) all over the country against the New Education Policy, revocation of undemocratic UGC guidelines, against rising unemployment, against saffronisation of education, etc. He also highlighted the SFI’s slogan of “Education for All”.
