Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar. 19: Dr. S.R District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Garacharama inaugurated a transformative 5-day in-service teacher training workshop on ‘ICT Integrated Competency Based Teaching’ yesterday, aimed at empowering Primary School Teachers (PSTs) with cutting-edge digital pedagogical tools. The event, held at the DIET campus, marked a significant step toward modernizing classroom practices in alignment with national education goals. Principal, DIET, Shri Gyan Sheel Dubey was also present on the occasion.
Dr. Sarswati, Lecturer and Faculty In-Charge of Dr. S R DIET, presided over the inauguration. In her keynote address, she underscored the urgency of adopting ICT-based pedagogy to nurture competencies tailored to students’ evolving needs and interests.
The workshop has drawn 50 enthusiastic PSTs from the South Andaman and Wimberlygunj Educational Zones. Over the next five days, participants will engage in module-based training covering critical themes such as: ICT integration across subjects, promoting digital wellness and addressing cyber threats among students, besides harnessing Government-backed educational platforms, including DIKSHA, e-Pathshala, and SWAYAM, to enrich classroom delivery. A highlight of the program will be the hands-on sessions where teachers will craft innovative e-content using TAB devices issued by the Education Department. These tablets, distributed to all PSTs, are part of a broader initiative to accelerate ICT adoption in classrooms and bridge digital divides in education by the Education Department.
The training aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s vision of integrating technology into education, equipping teachers to foster 21st century skills among students. With a blend of theory, practical demonstrations, and peer collaborations, the workshop promises to redefine classroom experiences across the island’s primary schools.
