Car Nicobar, Mar. 19: The Extension Office, Industries Department, Car Nicobar, in collaboration with various stakeholders, conducted a series of awareness programmes on ‘PM Vishwakarma’ Scheme across all villages of Car Nicobar from Feb.3 to March 8, 2025. A total of 457 tribal youth and villagers participated in these programmes held across all the villages of Car Nicobar. The purpose of these awareness programmes was to enhance public outreach and provide crucial information to local tribal youths, particularly engaged in traditional Nicobari Hodi (canoe) making and mat and basket making.
Industries Promotion Officer, Car Nicobar, detailed the benefits of PM Vishwakarma Scheme, including the incentives offered, eligibility criteria, necessary documentation, and the registration process. He encouraged the villagers to enroll based on their respective trades, emphasizing how the scheme could positively impact their socio-economic development and enhance their livelihoods. To ensure full understanding, Supervisor (Coir), Extension Office, Car Nicobar presented the information in the local Nicobarese language. This helped to ensure that all participants could fully grasp the scheme’s benefits in their native language.
Representatives from Fisheries Department and Village Level Workers from the Block Development Office, Car Nicobar, also joined the programmes to raise awareness and spread the message about the scheme. Fisheries Department highlighted the opportunities available in the fisheries sector while elaborating on the features of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.
The Village Headmen, Secretaries and Village Council representatives from all villages participated, speaking to the villagers in Nicobarese and motivated them to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the scheme for improving their livelihoods. Pamphlets about PM Vishwakarma Scheme were handed out to all participants to ensure the information was widely shared.
