Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 17: The Primary Chess Utsav (PCU), a Zonal Level Chess Tournament organized by the Sports Section, Directorate of Education, in collaboration with DEO Wimberlygunj, successfully concluded today at the auditorium of GSSS Wimberlygunj. Selected students from 26 Govt. Primary schools under the Wimberlygunj educational zone participated with great enthusiasm, making it a memorable event.
The tournament was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Mohd.Abdul Saleem, Principal GSSS Wimberlygunj and Dr. Manoharan, DEO Wimberlygunj with the ceremonial first move on the top board, marking the commencement of the event.
The competition followed a rapid format, with separate categories for boys and girls in which Anish Barla of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Ferrargunj, remained unbeaten and secured the champion’s title in the boy’s category while Satvik of Govt. Primary School Chunnabatta, and Mohd. Sinaan GPS Mannarghat clinched the second and third positions, respectively.
In the Girls’ category, Taniya of Govt. Middle School, Bambooflat secured the first position while Sakshi Mistry of GPS Shoalbay 14 and Anjel Anil of GPS Mannarghat secured the second and third places, respectively.
The top three players were awarded trophies by Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Veterinary Doctor of Wimberlygunj, who graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Dr. Manoharan, DEO Wimberlygunj.
