Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar. 5: The 38th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was held today. The guest of honour, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, graced the convocation function at IGNOU, Regional Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary congratulated the learners for successfully completing their respective courses and being part of the convocation function today. The convocation stage for the student’s not only provides a degree certificate to a learner, but it also enables one to prepare a roadmap for their next course of action for a bright future in life, the Chief Secretary said adding that IGNOU through its distance and open education has been able to provide quality higher education opportunities to all segments of society.
The Chief Secretary congratulated the team of IGNOU Regional Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram for providing more than 300 different numbers of courses including skill development to its learners and covering even the remote parts of A&N Islands through its Distance Education. Studying at IGNOU offers several benefits including flexibility in learning through a wide range of programs and the ability to study at one’s own pace, making it suitable for working professionals and individuals with other commitments, the Chief Secretary said urging the learners to inform about this advantage of IGNOU to their parents, colleagues and the society so that they can also reap its benefit.
The special guest, Shri P. K. Paul, IFS, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Administration addressed the learners and congratulated them on their success.
The Regional Director, IGNOU, Regional Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob welcomed the gathering and presented report about academic activities in the last one year. He informed that this is the first time, the convocation is being organized in its own building. About 951 students were eligible to receive their degree /diplomas for 38th Convocation, out of which, 181 were present in the convocation function which was attended by a large number of guests, parents along with their wards.
The convocation function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sudarshan Raja, Assistant Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram.
