Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 05: CRC A&N Islands in collaboration with Veer Savarkar International Airport, SriVijaya Puram, the awareness programme on SUGAMYA BHARAT ABHIYAN & DISABILITY INCLUSION AT AIRPORTS is set to be a landmark event dedicated to advancing accessibility and fostering an inclusive travel environment. This programme engages staff members from all levels to ensure a comprehensive, grassroots approach to integrating inclusive practices within airport operations.
This programme is the follow-up initiative to the “Sugamya Yatra – A Walk for Divyangjan” event, which was conducted on February 7th , 2025, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration. That event featured a symbolic walk from Cellular Jail to Nethaji Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram, alongside Divyangjan participants under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan aimed at eliminating barriers and enhancing the travel experience for individuals with disabilities. This event brings together industry experts, distinguished administrators, and frontline staff at airport to build a unified vision for accessibility in travel and to drive sustainable improvements in infrastructure and service delivery.
Mr. Udaya Kumar, IAS, Disability Commissioner, A&N Islands inaugurated the session through online platform and emphasized the critical importance of accessibility and outlining actionable strategies for implementing inclusive practices across all service touchpoints.
Smt. Sumithamol S, Director, CRC A&N Islands, formally welcomed all participants, setting the stage for collaborative dialogue and engagement.
Mr. Keshab Sarkar, Officiating Director and JGM, CNS, Veer Savarkar International Airport presented the airport’s vision and share its ongoing commitment to creating a barrier-free travel environment as being a special guest. Followed by his speech, Mr. T.Y.Abid, lect in Physiotherapy, Mr. Biswajit Roy, Administrative Officer, Mrs. Saranyah, Rehabilitation Officer & Mr. Venket Ramana, Assistant, CRC A&N Islands facilitated sessions about Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, Challenges faced by the Divyangjan at Airports and Roles and responsibilities of airport staff in disability inclusion.
This initiative underscores the region’s proactive commitment to inclusivity by engaging participants from every operational tier. This Awareness Programme serves as a critical platform for sharing best practices, fostering strategic partnerships, and mobilizing a concerted effort to ensure that every traveller, regardless of ability, experiences world-class accessibility for inclusion.
