Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 16: The Department of Agriculture, A & N Administration in association with the National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) organized a 2 days District Level Training on ‘Scientific Bee Keeping– Role of Bees in Agriculture Production and Its Economics’ at Panchayat Hall, Ramakrishnapur, Little Andaman on Feb.10 & 11, 2025. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Parmanathan, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman as chief guest in the presence of guest of honor, Mr. Ashamanja Halder, Zilla Parishad Member, Ramakrishnapur and Pradhans of Ramakrishnapur, Vivekanandapur and Rabindranagar. Cluster Coordinator, (RD), PRIs, SHGs /Cooperatives Farmers from tribal communities attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest appealed to the farmers of Little Andaman to adopt bee keeping practices, highlighting how Little Andaman is emerging as a hub for production of honey and its potential of meeting the needs of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. An interactive session was held wherein experts and bee keepers shared their views on scientific methods of Bee keeping.
On the 2nd day, farmers were made to visit the field of Mr. Gobindo Biswas, Vivekanadapur and Mr. Kalyan Mondol, Ramakrishnapur, where a demo on rearing practices, bee colony handling, honey extraction and multiplication of colony was given by Mr. Paramashivam, Head Worker, GCM. A feedback evaluation was also taken, in which the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes were awarded to the participants.
