Little Andaman, Jan 15: The CD Block of Little Andaman successfully organized a Block-Level Training Program on ‘Training on Promoting Women’s Participation in the Decision-Making Process in Gram Sabha (Theme-9)’ recently, at the Panchayat Hall in Ramkrishna Pur. The event was conducted under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) and aimed to engage local officials, including Elected Women Representatives (EWRs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Community Resource Persons (CRPs).
The training was inaugurated by Mr. Belthazer, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Little Andaman, who highlighted the importance of the program in enhancing rural livelihoods. Mrs. S. Parmeswari, Block Programme Manager (BPM), & Mr. Suman Halder, MIS Assistant underscored the critical role of women in the Gram Sabha and the broader decision-making processes within the community.
Ms. C. Vijya, a Domain Expert on Women Empowerment, provided an in-depth session on promoting women’s active participation in Gram Sabhas. Mr. Adnan Ahmed Khan, Panchayat Secretary of Ramkrishna Pur, Gram Panchayat, shared insights into women’s role in decision-making within the Gram Sabha.
The program also featured discussions by Mrs. Tumpa Bairagi, Mrs. Anita Mandal, and Mrs. E. Maheswari, Samiti members of Little Andaman who shared the challenges they face as women in decision-making roles. Their testimonies highlighted the hurdles and the need for increased support and empowerment for women in the community.
