The general public have been informed that at present Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) respiratory disease has been reported, sporadically (a few cases) globally, which is like any other viral respiratory diseases, is reflected during the winter season with symptoms like the common cold and flu. Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has not been confirmed in any patient in this UT, till date.
In winters, the possibility of transmission of various respiratory system-related diseases such as seasonal influenza (H1N1, H3N2) and Influenza-like illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) also increases. Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) comes with the symptoms of a common cold and gets cured automatically within 03 to 05 days, due to which there is no need for any kind of panic or fear and it is not a new virus or an imminent pandemic threat, seasonal surges are typical. HMPV spreads from person to person through, droplets from coughing or sneezing, close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands, touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the mouth, nose, or eyes etc.
However, as a precaution, it is mandatory to follow the following guidelines for the protection and prevention of all winter season related viral respiratory diseases including Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV): –

· Do not panic: rely on the media reports issued by Govt. Agencies only.
· Special care should be taken for children, elderly persons and those suffering from any other serious disease. · Use a handkerchief/tissue to cover the nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing. · Avoid going to crowded places. · Keep hands clean with soap and water. · Drink plenty of water/fluids and eat nutritious food. · If you have symptoms like cold, cough, fever etc., seek medical advice and take medication. · If you have symptoms, maintain a distance safe (01 meter at least) from healthy people. |
· Do not reuse used tissue paper/handkerchief.
· Avoid shaking hands. · Avoid close contact with people with symptoms. · Do not take medicine without medical consultation. · Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth frequently. · Avoid spitting in public places. |
