Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 29 :In support of the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s nationwide campaign for a “Child Marriage-Free India,” PRAYAS JAC successfully conducted a series of awareness programmes across South Andaman.
Events were hosted at key locations including the District and Sessions Court, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Police Training School, Sri Vijayapuram Municipal Council, Andaman College, Andaman Law College, and schools such as Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Govt. Secondary School Junglighat, Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, and Vitala Public School.
A cultural programme at Dhanikhari Community Hall marked the culmination of the events. Girls from nearby villages showcased their talent, and prizes were distributed to all participants. Following the cultural event, a candle march involving local villagers, PRI members, and PRAYAS JAC staff was organized to symbolize unity and commitment against child marriage.
Pledge-taking ceremonies were held at various venues, led by prominent dignitaries. Shri Sudhir Kumar, District and Sessions Judge, administered the pledge at the court premises; Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, led the pledge at the DC Office; and Shri Sudeep Rai Sharma, Chairperson of SVPMC, guided the staff at the Muncipal Council headquarters. Additionally, Ms. Yogita Sharma, SDPO, South Andaman, and Mr. Rizwan Hassan, SHO, Bambooflat, led similar ceremonies at schools, motivating students and educators alike.
Interactive sessions and discussions emphasized the adverse effects of child marriage and the importance of united action to eradicate it. A PRAYAS JAC representative remarked, “Child marriage infringes upon fundamental rights and perpetuates inequality. This campaign aims to empower communities to challenge and eliminate this harmful practice.”
PRAYAS JAC urges all Islanders to join this noble mission and work together to create a Child Marriage-Free India.
