Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 30:Joining the nationwide movement to raise awareness for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs), as part of the #Act4Dyslexia campaign, the Art & Culture Department of A&N Administration, as per the direction of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, illuminated the National Memorial Cellular Jail in Red, the colour symbolizing dyslexia awareness, on Oct. 29, 2024.
This initiative aims at raising awareness about learning disabilities, which are estimated to affect 20% of India’s population, including 35 million students. It is being organized in collaboration with UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) & ChangeInkk Foundation.
This initiative is part of the national campaign launched at the beginning of October in recognition of Global Dyslexia Awareness Month, aimed at strengthening support for individuals with SLDs. Earlier this week, some of India’s most iconic Government buildings and monuments, including Rashtrapati Bhawan, North and South Block, Parliament House and India Gate, were also illuminated in Red as part of this important campaign.
The #Act4Dyslexia campaign represents a collective effort to develop understanding, eliminate stigma, and ensure that every individual living with learning disability, has the opportunity to thrive.
