Port Blair, Mar 6: Mr. B.P Ray, MP, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in his letter addressed to the Minister of Home Affairs, Govt. of India highlighted various problems and demands of villagers residing in Narayan Tikry, a Forest Encroachment Village of North Andaman.
Mr. Ray informed the Minister that out of the thirty three families residing in Narayan Tikry twenty eight are Pre-78 forest encroachers.
He further added that some of the families have been allotted land with licenses in Paschimnagar, Gandhi Nagar, Ganesh Nagar and Shanti Nagar but their lands are occupied by old encroachers and some of the plots are having big trees of commercial value.
Mr. Ray also informed the Minister about the demands of the residents which included providing drinking water facilities, providing electric connections or solar home lights at BPL rates, providing the encroachers land in Narayan Tikry only cancelling their license for the land allotted at other places.
Mr. Ray concluded by requesting the Minister of Home Affairs, GOI to intervene into the matter and get the villagers their rights.
