Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 03: Mock drills of different Anti-Terrorist scenario were successfully conducted under GANDIV-VI, the annual National Counter Terror exercise of the NSGfrom 01st to 02ndOctober 2024 in Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.These mock drills were conducted in collaboration with various stakeholders,including the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, National Security Guard (NSG), Andaman and Nicobar Command, Indian Coast Guard, MARCOS, and the Andaman and Nicobar Police.
The exercise simulated various terrorist attack scenarios, including live bomb blasts, vehicle-borne IEDs, hostage situations and hijacking of vessel M.V. Sindhu. These drills were aimed at evaluating the readiness to respond and coordination between multiple agencies in case of complex terror-related incidents.
Key locations for the exercise included vital installations across Sri Vijayapuram, such as Gandhi Statue at Aberdeen Bazaar, Bathu Basti Parking, near Icy Spicy in Junglighat market, Sinclair Hotel, ISPW Secretariat, Cellular Jail, JNRM College, Veer Savarkar International Airport (VSI Airport), ISTRAC at Dollygunj, and Haddo Wharf.
The drills involved realistic scenarios, including controlled detonations and simulated attacks, offering participating agencies a hands-on opportunity to practice tactical operations, hostage rescue, and bomb disposal procedures. The hijacking of M.V. Sindhu involved a multi-agency response, demonstrating swift coordination between marine and land-based forces.
The exercise started at 12:00 Hrs on 1st October 2024 and concluded successfully at 09:00 Hrs on 02ndOctober 2024, reinforcing the operational preparedness of all the involved agencies and highlighting the importance of coordinated action in responding to potential threats.
The GANDIV-VI exercise demonstrated the high-level synergy between the participating agencies and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
