Port Blair, Feb 28: While addressing the Lok Sabha during the Zero hour discussion Mr. B.P Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands informed the Lok Sabha that in the year 1980 a body named Island Development Authority was formulated under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister assisted by the Cabinet Ministers.
Mr. Ray emphasizing on IDA meeting held on 19/01/2003 in which under the Chairmanship of Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee it was decided that the Govt, will allot one Hact. of land to the Pre-42 Islanders, Settlers and to the descendents of the settlers who came before the Independence in the Islands.
He added that the Survey was held and about an area of 16,270 Hact. Deemed Forest Land was surveyed about 03 years back. About 4000 Hact land also could be traced under Survey from the land formed by the Tsunami waves of 2004. But still the Land has not been provided to the Pre-42 Islanders, Settlers and to the descendents of the settlers who came before the Independence in the Islands.
Mr. Ray further informed that until now only one IDA meeting was held under the chairmanship of the current Prime Minister for duration of forty minutes and in that meeting also the matter of land allotment was not passed in the 10th IDA meeting. He demanded from the House that the Pre-42 Islanders should be provided with the land, at the earliest.
