Port Blair, May 22: The passenger vessel MV Sindhu yesterday collided with the berthed MV Bharat Seema at Haddo Port. The collision occurred while MV Sindhu was in motion and MV Bharat Seema was stationary at the port. Reports indicate that both vessels sustained minor damages from the impact.
The front mast of MV Sindhu was slightly damaged, while the front portion of MV Bharat Seema was dented. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, but eyewitnesses and individuals related to the shipping industry suggest that high winds and the absence of tug vessel support may have contributed to the incident.
Seafarers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have long been advocating for proper tug vessel support at major ports. The absence of such support poses significant risks, as this incident highlights.
