Port Blair, Apr 15: On 08/04/2024, information was received in PS Shaheed Dweep that a tourist had not returned back to the resort since 07/04/2024 morning, when he left on a cycle before sunrise.
Subsequently, a team was formed for the search of the missing person and upon checking of CCTVs, it was found that he was cycling towards Neil Kendra on 07/04/2024 at around 4am. With this clue, it was assumed that he was cycling towards Neil Kendra to watch the sunrise and accordingly a search was initiated in the jungles around Neil Kendra. Police Marine Force and local fishermen community were also roped in to aid search in the sea.
On 11/04/2024, after a day of intense jungle combing operation a cycle, that was identified as belonging to the tourist, was found inside the jungle. To further expedite the search, assistance from the Police Tracker Dog was taken and the search began with renewed vigor.
Police teams along with local villagers continued with combing operations through the dense forests. The search operation was particularly challenging due to the intense heat wave and high density of the jungle foliage. Despite these challenges, the team recognized the value of time in the search operation and continued the effort without care for day and night.
Finally, on 14/04/2024 the missing person was found alive in the jungle. Due to certain underlying health conditions, he had ventured into the forest in the early hours of 07/04/2024 and lost his way. The condition of the missing person is stable and he is getting treated for dehydration caused due to excessive heat. He has been handed over to his father who had arrived from Kerala on being informed of his missing report.
The team was ably led by Mr. Manasvi Vashisth, SDPO Swaraj Dweep and SI Pradeep, SHO Shaheed Dweep, under the overall supervision of Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
Further, the general public is requested to share any information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100 & 03192-236641. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.
