Port Blair, Mar 24: The District Health Society, South Andaman under National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme has observed World TB Day on 24th March, 2024 at the Auditorium of Govt. Tagore College, Port Blair with the theme of “YES, WE CAN END TB ”in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services. Dr. P. Lal, State TB Officer/ District TB Officer, South Andaman has graced the occasion along with Mr. B. Nagendra, District Programme Manager, DHS (SA) by lightening the lamp followed by cultural activities on TB awareness.
An awareness campaign has started through-out the South Andaman District a week before World TB Day under the supervision of Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS Deputy Commissioner (SA) / Chairman, District Health Society such as, TB awareness jerseys wore by District Administration Cricket Team, Walkathon rallies, Quiz competitions, displaying poster on Auto-rickshaw, screening of healthcare providers and suspect of Tuberculosis, which concludes by observance of World TB Day held on 24th March, 2024.
The District TB Officer (SA) informed the gathering that Tuberculosis and its prevention initiatives are being carried out by the Administration to eliminate Tuberculosis from the Islands. Further, he launched the TB awareness video clip followed by an awareness song launched by the District Programme Manager to create awareness in the community level for early screening of the suspects, regular medication and adoption of TB patients by registering as Nikshay Mitra to provide nutritional kit.
Further, the individuals, volunteers, NGO who have supported the District TB team for TB awareness video clip, audio clip and active participation in the awareness activities have been provided mementos and certificates in the event.
Earlier, Ms. Sini, District Programme Coordinator welcomed the gathering and the event concluded by the vote of thanks by District Programme Manager.
