Port Blair, Mar 17: In view of the ensuing General Election to Lok Sabha -2024, as a part of SVEEP activity for of General Elections – 2024 and in deference to the ECI’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the participation of every voter in this monumental celebration of democracy, a Mini-Marathon on the theme “PINKATHON for Women” was organized on 17.03.2024 at 6:30 AM from Lucknow Junction, Mayabunder to Netaji Sports Complex, Mayabunder.
The Pinkathon was flagged-off by Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, District Election Officer/DC, N&MA. The officials, staff, students particularly women/girls from MGG College Mayabunder, GMSSS Mayabunder, GSS Webi and women/ girls in large numbers from adjacent Gram Panchayats of Mayabunder, Pokkadera, Rampur etc. participated in the said event with great enthusiasm.
The objective of organizing the ‘Pinkathon for Women’ was to encourage the women voters to participate in the whole electioneering process and to come forward in large numbers to exercise suffrage on the Poll Day-19.04.2024 in a confident, comfortable and ethical manner.
Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, DEO/DC, N&MA, the Chief Guest of the event during the conclusion of the event, addressing the gathering, highlighted the importance of voting in a confident and ethical manner and urged the women, students and the general public for immediate registration who have not registered their names in the voter’s list yet and appealed them to participate in the whole electioneering process and to cast their vote in ensuing General Election to Lok-Sabha-2024. He also urged the college and school students to create awareness among their family, community etc., with regard to the importance of voting and how every vote counts in democracy in electing appropriate candidate(s) to run the democratic India which is the biggest democracy of the world.
Approximately 200 participants participated in the said event and the event was concluded by felicitating the winners with cash prizes and certificates by the Chief Guest.
