Port Blair, Mar 10: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalats in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR centre-‘PRAYAS’, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Diglipur today. The Judicial Officers of this judgeship were present to mark the commencement of the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair, Mayabunder and Diglipur and started its functioning from 10 am onwards.
Out of the total 916 pre-litigation cases including 514 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases and 301 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat, out of which, 114 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 114 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 3,04,22,350.80/- have been settled at Rs. 1,96,92,700/-, thus paving a benefit of 1,07,29,650.80/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs.6,37,300/- was realised on the spot. Disposing of 300 Criminal cases, a sum of Rs. 15,150/- was realised as fine.
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 72 pre-litigation cases including 34 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred, out of which, 23 pre-litigation cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 22,04,875/-. A sum of Rs. 1,56,800/- was realised on the spot. 110 cases pending in different courts were taken up, out of which, 44 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 1,33,100/- was realised. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 263 pre-litigation cases were referred out of which 38 pre-litigation cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 30,01,780/-. A sum of Rs. 4,21,780/- was realised on the spot. 35 cases pending in different courts were taken up, out of which, 27 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 60,500/- was realised.
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Mr. Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Port Blair, Mr. Duri Venkat Srinivas, Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, Md. Gloria Mary, Advocate, Ms. Karishma, Advocate, Ms. Supreet Sharma, Advocate and Ms. Barsha Das, Advocate, Mrs. Maria Sheela, Social Worker, Mr. M. P. Abdul Rasheed, Social Worker, Mr. Mandeep Singh Grewal, Social Worker and Dr. Nazma Siddique, Social Worker. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Mr. Subhajit Basu, Additional District and Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mr. Rahul Dev Mridha, Advocate and Mr. Abdul Siddique, Social Worker. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Mr. Arnab Roy Chowdhury, Judicial Magistrate First Class, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Mr. Biswajit Mondal, Advocate and Mr. Dasarath Mistry, Retd. Head Master, Diglipur.
