Port Blair, Mar 05: Akhil Bharatiya Janjati Suraksha Manch is the largest platform working for the rights of 11 crore tribal population of India, in which the interests of 450 tribal communities are protected. Whenever tribal society is exploited, displaced and rights are violated, the Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) works in the frontline. The life of tribal society runs around water, forest, land and animals, nature has its original place in their culture and faith.
Following the ideals of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Kartik Oraon, the Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) is raising its voice against the atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali of West Bengal. There have been fierce protests for this in various tribal districts and major centers across the country.
The Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) held a protest in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands capital i.e., at Port Blair on 01st March, 2024, over the incidents happening with SC, ST and backward communities’ women in Sandeshkhali, in which a Protest March was taken out from Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazaar to the Anthropological Survey of India (ASI) through various routes of Port Blair city.
A large number of women from the Chotanagpuri Ranchi Community participated in the Protest March. In the beginning of the rally, Mr. Parbal Ram, Organizing Secretary of Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM), ANI said that in future there should not be any incident like Sandeshkhali and whenever any atrocities against the Adivasi community taken place that time the Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) will raise its voice for it. Further, Mr. Shravan Mehra, Patron, JSM has demanded from the Government that those who are responsible for these incidents in Sandeshkhali should be punished severely; such hooliganism and harassment against women should be stopped immediately. Mrs. Kumari Munda, Co-Convenor, Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) has demanded that the women of Sandeshkhali should be provided immediate protection. In the Protest Rally, Adivasi women and young girls raised slogans and demanded punishment to the culprits and also shouted slogans of Mamata Banerjee Hai-Hai. In the conclusion of the rally, Mrs. Rekha Bhagat, Convener, Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) has said with immense anger that if the harassment on women is not stopped and the culprits are not punished, the Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) will not sit silent, it was demanded from the Administration that the demand of the Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) should be taken forward and immediate action should be taken, If this is not done, women will take on to the roads in even larger numbers and hold fierce protest rallies. The Protest Rally culminated by the submission of a Memorandum by the office bearers of the Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) to the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
