Port Blair, Feb 11: The Department of Art and Culture, A&N Administration is organizing a Classical Music Workshop for artistes of these islands in the Andaman Club from 11th -16th February 2013. Smti. Rita Bokil is the resource person of the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated today by Mr. Lucas Robert, Director (Art & Culture). In his address, he said that this is a golden opportunity for the island artistes to learn from such a renowned Classical exponent. About 50 singers are taking part in the workshop.
Smti. Rita Bokil has been trained in Indian Classical Music by some of the finest musician and musicologists in India. Under the able guidance of Pandit Vinay Chandra Maudgalya and Mr. Vasant Thakur, she learnt stylistic techniques of classical music and she has received degree of Sangeet Visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai.
She has been teaching in Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Directorate of Education, Delhi for past 30 years, she has widely performed in India, U.S.A., Holland, Paris, London, Philippines, Hongkong, Belgium etc. She has also conducted Children’s Choir of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. She is the resource person for NCERT, CCRT, Bal Bhavan, District Institute of Educational Technology (DIET), DAV, Navoday and MCD Schools.
