Hut Bay, Feb 11: A meeting of PRIs were held in the conference hall Panchayat Samiti , Hutbay , Little Andaman to sensitize the PRIs about the National Rural Drinking water Programme of Govt. Of India. The meeting was chaired by the Director, ANSWSM, Port Blair.
Mr. Jose P. John, Director, ANSWSM briefed about the Scheme of the central government, which is implemented from this financial year in the Islands. In this programme, Village water & Sanitation committe (VWSC) has been formed headed by the Pradhan of the Panchayat.
The Water Supply Junior Engineer of APWD, PRI JEs, Panchayat Secretary, ANM and Anganwadi worker will be the member. The VWSC will be provided with water testing kit and training for members for testing. The VWSC will prepare the scheme for water supply in their area which will be taken up under the central scheme through APWD or PRIs.
The aim of the scheme is make the villages self sufficient in potable piped water supply and its maintenance. The quality of water supplied is also to be ensured by the Pnchayat. The PRIs shown keen interest and agreed to start functioning of the VWSC from this month onwards.
The meeting was attended by the Up- Pramukh Shri Jogga Rao, Executive Officer, Pradhans of Netaji Nagar, Hutbay, RK Pur, Engineers of APWD, PRI and Panchayat Secretaries . Such meetings will be conducted in all the Panchayats of the Islands.
